As a Marketing and Technology services company, Magnet 360 does a lot of innovative client-work, but as much as we love helping our clients, we love helping our community too. Cocktails for a Cause, (aka CFC) is one of the ways that Magnet 360 gives back to the community. This quarterly happy hour event combines quality networking with raising awareness and funds for local non-profit organizations.
Cocktails for a Cause began in 2007 with Magnet 360’s Director of Sales and Business Development, Tina Sherman. Tina and her friends were passionate about several different charities and loved to socialize. From their desire to give back, came the idea to turn casual happy hours into something more meaningful. Relying on the, “Six Degrees of Tina Sherman” effect and her excellent networking ability, Cocktails for a Cause increasingly grew. While working for Reside (acquired by Magnet 360 in 2012), Tina brought CFC to founder, Matt Meents, where it developed into a company-sponsored networking event for charity. Since its inception, the event has gained so much momentum that we’ve expanded this charitable cocktail hour into our New York office. The first ever New York CFC is on March 21st at The Perfect Pint benefiting the American Red Cross, to support ongoing Sandy Relief efforts.
Choosing a charity
We receive several internal and external requests to feature a specific charity for upcoming events. Magnet 360 employees, as well as our partners, clients, and friends are invited to send nominations. With the help of an internal committee here at Magnet 360, charities are chosen based on a couple of requirements: the nonprofit must be a locally recognized 501c(3) organization, and the charity must benefit families and/or children.
Past and upcoming events
On March 5th, we held Cocktails for a Cause at Figlio Restaurant in Minneapolis, benefiting Fraser. Fraser serves children and adults with more than 60 types of mental and physical disabilities, and is Minnesota’s largest provider of autism services. We packed over 50 people into the bar area, while engaging in both intimate and lighthearted conversation. If you missed the event and still want to donate to this important cause, please visit Fraser’s website.
Next quarter, we’re excited to benefit Abbey’s Hope, a Minnesota-based charity that promotes awareness of and education related to child safety issues, specifically pool and spa safety. The date is still TBD, but look for an invite in early May. Learn more about Abbey’s Hope here.
Cocktails for a Cause continues to Rock!
Cocktails for a Cause has continued to grow, as our friends, partners, and clients join us for evenings of fun and fundraising. It’s a great chance for our clients and partners to connect with Magnet 360 outside of the office and to raise awareness for charities. Managing partner Matt Meents states it best, “One of the great things about Magnet 360 is all the great innovative “head” work we get to do for our clients, but Cocktails for Cause allows us to get our “hearts” involved for amazing local charities… That’s Rockin!”
